[0:00] Start -- This track starts about 6:20 AM as we approach Saint Johns, Antigua. Pause the tour and zoom out to see the islands of Antigua and Barbuda. This day we took the “Best of Antigua” excursion which visits many points of interest on the island. You can see the track of the excursion across the island.
[3:06] Walking Tour -- At about 11:00 AM we began a short walk through town. Our walk ended when we returned to the ship for lunch.
[5:38] Start Excursion -- At about 12:00 PM we began our island tour. We recommend that you join us on this very interesting excursion. At about 12:45 we passed a tiny home that is the oldest on the island.
[9:36] Southern Shoreline -- At about 1:06 PM we approached the beautiful shore line on the south side of the island. Pause and zoom out to examine the rough coastline. To orient the map, you might want to rotate the Google Earth compass control so that North is up.
[10:32] Spectacular! -- At about 1:23 PM we were saw the most spectacular scenery of the entire trip. With the bright, clear weather, we were able to get some very good photographs. This area was the site of one of the fortifications that protected the island. Our tour guide said that Antigua was never attached because it was considered too difficult to capture.
[14:07] Nelson’s Dockyard -- Lord Nelson used this area to repair and refit British warships. We found this stop the highlight of the excursion. We listened to an interesting talk from local guides and got to partake of the very high octane rum punch provided as part of the excursion. This is certainly a must see attraction on the island.<
[17:35] Return to the Ship -- At about 2:17 we passed the location of an abandoned sugar refinery. Sugar is essentially no longer produced on the island. By 4:00 PM, we were back at the ship.
[19:12] Departure -- At about 5:00 PM we began our departure from the island.
