Dubrovnik, Crotia -- Interactive Map Traces Day 3 of PixTraveler's 2014 Mediterrain Cruise

This is the story of our visit to Dubrovnik, Croatia. I used this excellent web site for information about the city and recommend it if you want to learn more. After leaving Venice and traveling south on the Adriatic Sea for one day, this was our first port stop on the cruise. We docked at the cruise port north of the old city and boarded the excursion bus about 8:00 AM. We rode to the the walls of the city and began our walking tour. The tour spoiled us a bit for the rest of the cruise. We used wireless headsets so everyone could hear and the guide was marvelous. She was a native who had been a young teenager during the 1991 Siege of Dubrovnik during the Croatian War of Independence. The Old Town was heavily damaged during the siege, but has been fully restored. We walked through the narrow streets passed churches including the famous Church of St. Blaise and ancient municipal buildings. Everyone had pictures taken in front of the Onofrio's Fountains which were built from 1438 to 1440 when Dubrovnik was the major city in Republic of Ragusa and was under the protection of the Ottoman Empire. The fountains were part a system of cisterns and aqueducts that were marvels of engineering.

Our bus excursion continued along the bluffs over the Adriatic and stopped at a beautiful restaurant for lunch. We returned to the ship over the same route and left port sailing south toward our next stop, Kotor, Montenegro.
